How Chipotle catering pricing works
Chipotle keeps catering refreshingly simple: you pay a flat price per person, and the total is just that rate times your headcount. There are no separate platter fees or tiered "feeds 8–10" boxes to decode — 50 people simply costs five times what 10 people costs for the same package.
There are two main catering formats, and the per-person price depends on which you choose:
1. Build Your Own — a self-serve spread where guests assemble their own burrito bowls, tacos, or burritos from your chosen ingredients. It comes in three tiers:
- Single — 1 protein, 2 bases (rice/beans), 2 toppings, 2 salsas, and tortillas. The best value.
- Double — adds a second protein. This is the most popular ("fan favorite") option.
- Triple — three proteins plus the most variety, typically including queso, guacamole, sour cream, and extra salsas.
2. Burritos by the Box — pre-rolled burritos (you mix and match fillings), and every two burritos come with chips, tomatillo-green chili salsa, and sour cream. A great low-effort option when you don't want to run a build-your-own line.
There's also an optional Chips & Dips tray — house-made chips with all four salsas plus your choice of guacamole or queso. Each tray serves about 10–15 people and runs roughly $47–$62 depending on location.
One important note: Build Your Own and Burritos by the Box both have a 10-person minimum, so they're built exactly for the group sizes in this guide.
Chipotle catering cost by group size
The table below uses typical mid-tier U.S. pricing. Your exact total depends on your city — use the calculator above for local numbers — but this is what most orders look like:
| Package | Per person | 10 ppl | 20 ppl | 25 ppl | 50 ppl | 100 ppl |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Build Your Own — Single | ~$10.85 | $109 | $217 | $271 | $543 | $1,085 |
| Build Your Own — Double | ~$13.55 | $136 | $271 | $339 | $678 | $1,355 |
| Build Your Own — Triple | ~$16.30 | $163 | $326 | $408 | $815 | $1,630 |
| Burritos by the Box | ~$12.10 | $121 | $242 | $303 | $605 | $1,210 |
Totals exclude tax, delivery, and tip. Add roughly $50–$62 per Chips & Dips tray (one per ~12 guests) if you want chips on the side.
Chipotle catering for 10 people
Expect about $110–$165 for the entrees. The Single build runs around $109, the fan-favorite Double about $136, and the loaded Triple about $163. Add one Chips & Dips tray (~$53) and you're at roughly $160–$215 total.
Chipotle catering for 20 people
Plan on $220–$325. A Double build — the sweet spot for most office lunches and parties — lands around $271. Two chips trays add about $106.
Chipotle catering for 25 people
Figure $270–$410. The Double build is about $339; the Triple about $408. This is a common size for team lunches and small celebrations.
Chipotle catering for 50 people
Budget $545–$815. A Double build for 50 is roughly $678. With chips trays (about 4–5 of them), add another $210–$265.
Chipotle catering for 100 people
Plan on $1,085–$1,630 for entrees. A Double build for a 100-person event runs about $1,355. Chips for the whole group add roughly $475–$555.
Per-person price by city
Chipotle catering prices vary noticeably by metro. Here's the per-person range we found across major U.S. cities (Build Your Own Single → Triple):
- Most affordable: Nashville (~$9.95–$14.95/person)
- Typical mid-tier: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver (~$10.85–$16.30/person)
- Higher-cost metros: Washington DC and Los Angeles (~$12.20–$18.70), and the priciest — San Francisco and New York City (~$13.35–$20.20/person)
So the same 100-person Double build that costs about $1,250 in Nashville runs closer to $1,685 in San Francisco. The calculator at the top of this page has exact, current pricing for 17 metro areas.
What's not included in the sticker price
When you're budgeting, remember the per-person price is just for the food. Your final cost will also include:
- Sales tax — varies by state and city.
- Delivery fee — if you're not picking up.
- Tip / gratuity — especially for delivery and setup.
- Add-ons — extra Chips & Dips, drinks, or additional proteins.
As a rule of thumb, add 15–25% on top of the food subtotal to estimate your all-in cost.
Tips for ordering Chipotle catering
- Order at least 24 hours ahead. Chipotle asks for a day's notice so they can prep your order alongside their daily fresh ingredients.
- The Double is the safe default. Two proteins keeps almost everyone happy without jumping to Triple pricing.
- Going build-your-own? It handles dietary restrictions beautifully — vegetarians, meat-eaters, and gluten-free guests all build from the same line.
- Add chips strategically. One Chips & Dips tray per ~12 guests is plenty; you don't need one per person.
- For 50+ guests, confirm capacity with your local store when you order, and consider whether delivery + setup is worth the added fee versus pickup.
